Monkeypox is a rare disease caused by infection with the monkeypox virus. Monkeypox virus belongs to the Orthopoxvirus genus in the family Poxviridae. The Orthopoxvirus genus also includes variola virus (which causes smallpox), vaccinia virus (used in the smallpox vaccine), and cowpox virus. Monkeypox is not related to chickenpox.

U.S. monkeypox cases have been very rare. Monkeypox does not occur naturally in the United States, but cases have happened that were associated with international travel or importing animals from areas where the disease is more common.

Historical research shows Monkeypox was first discovered in 1958 when two outbreaks of a pox-like disease occurred in colonies of monkeys kept for research. Despite being named “monkeypox”, the source of the disease remains unknown. However, African rodents and non-human primates (like monkeys) may harbor the virus and infect people.

The first human case of monkeypox was recorded in 1970.Since then, monkeypox has been reported in people in several other central and western African countries.

In 2003 records show the United States had the worst cases in numbers of monkeypox human infections (I’ll get to this history section as I continue forward).

However currently a lot of dialogue in the United States in recent days is based on theories, research in small fractions of humans; monitoring human cases in the United States. The CDC has become subjective to LGBTQ community.

In recent days the CDC has passed down dialogue to individual States. Theories in smallpox have become opinionated to stir Mass Hysteria in media attention in the United State; preying once again on the LGBTQ Community. The CDC pulls data from other sources including the “WHO”. Let’s not forget ‘WHO’ funding from global sources including the United States. Let’s not forget to this day even the Plague exists in the United States. Mass Hysteria through media interaction is more contagious than monkeypox because oftentimes people fear what they do not understand. It has been mentioned in scientific data research that Monkeypox is far less contagious than Covid-19.

In 2003 Outbreak was discovered from Imported Mammals. Forty-seven confirmed and probable cases of monkeypox were reported from six states—Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin. All people infected with monkeypox in this outbreak became ill after having contact with pet prairie dogs. The pets were infected after being housed near imported small mammals from Ghana. This was the first time that human monkeypox was reported outside of Africa.

What caused the 2003 U.S. outbreak?

Investigators determined that a shipment of animals from Ghana, imported to Texas in April 2003, introduced monkeypox virus into the United States. The shipment contained approximately 800 small mammals representing nine different species, including six types of rodents. These rodents included rope squirrels, tree squirrels, African giant pouched rats, brush-tailed porcupines, dormice, and striped mice. CDC laboratory testing showed that two African giant pouched rats, nine dormice, and three rope squirrels were infected with monkeypox virus. After importation into the United States, some of the infected animals were housed near prairie dogs at the facilities of an Illinois animal vendor. These prairie dogs were sold as pets before they developed signs of infection.

All people infected with monkeypox became ill after having contact with infected pet prairie dogs. A study conducted after the outbreak suggested that certain activities associated with animals were more likely to lead to monkeypox infection. These activities included touching a sick animal or receiving a bite or scratch that broke the skin. Another important factor was cleaning the cage or touching the bedding of a sick animal. No instances of monkeypox infection were attributed exclusively to person-to-person contact

Are members of the LGBTQ community more likely to contract monkeypox?

United Nations Seeks to inform Americans about falsely associating those within the LGTBQ community with the monkey virus. Stated clearly that Monkeypox is not a sexually transmitted disease but rather another form of smallpox. Quoted in research in close similar circumstances, monkeypox, smallpox, chickenpox and measles are not sexual transmitted diseases.

As one mentioned in science was to use scabies as an example. Just as it takes close contact to get scabies, it is based on the amount of time spent in a person’s domicile, home, intimacy and to rub faces with other humans to become reactive.

Some recent context passed through and delived by WHO and CDC; monkeypox cases have been identified in homosexual and bisexual men, public health experts are concerned about discriminatory language that falsely associates those within the LGTBQ community with the virus while the cause of the outbreak has yet to be determined.

United Nations health officials expressed concern over the homophobic and racist stereotypes being promoted by media outlets reporting on the virus and reiterated that anyone can become infected.

Monkeypox is not a sexually transmitted disease, but it can spread through intimate contact during sex when someone has an active rash, the CDC explained.

“Stigma and blame undermine trust and capacity to respond effectively during outbreaks like this one,” UNAIDS Deputy Executive Director Matthew Kavanagh said in a press release. “Experience shows that stigmatizing rhetoric can quickly disable evidence-based response by stoking cycles of fear, driving people away from health services, impeding efforts to identify cases, and encouraging ineffective, punitive measures.”

How was the 2003 outbreak contained?

CDC and the public health departments in the affected states, together with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Food and Drug Administration, and other agencies, participated in a variety of activities that prevented further spread of monkeypox. This included extensive laboratory testing; deployment of smallpox vaccine and treatments; development of guidance for patients, healthcare providers, veterinarians, and other animal handlers; tracking potentially infected animals; and investigation into possible human cases. Partners in the response issued an immediate embargo and prohibition on the importation, interstate transportation, sale, and release into the environment of certain species of rodents including prairie dogs. FDA later rescinded the part of the order that restricted the capture, sale, and interstate movement of prairie dogs or domestically-bred African rodents. However African rodents are still restricted in the United States.

Covid Intubation; Stridor, Glottic Stenosis

Covid Intubation; Stridor, Glottic Stenosis. Misleading Vital Oxygen Readers.

Do you have a loved one struggling after coming home after recovering from a severe case of Covid-19, was Intubated fighting for his/her life and you now notice unusual sounds coming from your loved one?

Perhaps it sounds like a bazaar humming sound or harmonic as time goes by. The noises are becoming longer durations and distressing for your loved one, yet vitals are stable, including O2 oxygen reader…?

Then this topic may help you or your loved one. Vital O2 oxygen readers can be very misleading and rather confusing when it comes back within normal range, yet your loved one looks to be in distress, trying to breathe? This would include those especially with tracheostomy or post tracheostomy after Covid-19 recovery

What is Stridor Breathing…?

Bilateral vocal cord paralysis is a common cause of stridor in adults. It results from a disruption in nerve function in both of the vocal cords, the two small structures in the throat that vibrate and collide to produce sound, leading to vocal cord tissues blocking the airway. This causes biphasic stridor, which means the symptoms of noisy breathing occur when a person inhales and exhales.

Bilateral vocal cord paralysis can result from being intubated, having a breathing tube inserted. These procedures can cause scar tissue that interferes with breathing.

What is Glottic Stenosis…?

Glottic stenosis describes a fixed narrowing of the upper airway at the level of the glottis. The glottis is the portion of the larynx containing the vocal cords and the glottic opening. Anatomically, the glottis is the part of the larynx extending from the junction between the true and false vocal cords at the apex of the laryngeal ventricle to a line one centimeter below the inferior aspect of the vocal cords. The anterior two-thirds of the glottis is the glottis vocalis, while the posterior third is known as the respiratory glottis.

Acquired glottic stenosis is more common and has multiple factors. The most frequent is trauma secondary to endotracheal intubation, which is thought to occur due to the tube’s pressure effect causing tissue ischemia, inflammation and scarring. The risk of glottic stenosis is related to the duration of the intubation, the size of the endotracheal tube, the number of intubations, and excess movement of the endotracheal tube in agitated patients. Also, prolonged nasogastric intubation causes mucosal ulceration which may progress to posterior stenosis.

Post endotracheal intubation stenosis is the most common type of glottic stenosis.  The risk of developing stenosis in intubated patients has been found to be higher based on two prospective studies realized in the long term intubated patients, particularly in those intubated for five days or longer.

Acquired glottic stenosis thought to be caused by mucosal ulceration which leads to infection, perichondritis, and cartilage necrosis leading to granulation tissue formation over the vocal process of the arytenoid cartilage. Subsequently, scar formation and fibrosis cause contraction and arytenoid fixation.

The clinical presentation of glottic stenosis is variable and depends on the cause and the severity of the stenosis. The most common presentation of laryngeal obstruction is stridor. The level of the airway obstruction determines the nature of the abnormal breathing sounds. Upper airway obstruction results in mostly inspiratory stridor while obstruction in the lower respiratory tract results in expiratory or biphasic stridor.

Acquired glottic stenosis symptoms depend on the severity and location of the stenosis. Respiratory symptoms are the predominant symptoms in posterior glottic stenosis while anterior glottic webs mainly present dysphonia. In general, patients may present with respiratory distress. Other symptoms include hoarseness, alteration of voice, and aphonia. Dysphagia and aspiration may also be present.

History needs to concentrate on the assessment of dyspnoea and stridor, the onset and severity of the symptoms as well as the aggravating and relieving factors. Also, the voice should be thoroughly assessed. Finally, history should focus on previous episodes of intubation, trauma, infectious and inflammatory processes as well as co-morbidities.

Lastly, when in doubt and you feel something alarming going on with your love one, keep on track getting the best care and don’t settle on an ER Band-Aid treatment. Keep going until you find answers.

This especially true to those who had intubation for extended period of time due to Covid-19, those with healing trach wounds from previous Tracheostomy and removed post Covid-19.

In conversions therapy or reparative therapy words spoken translate in form to lead negative interpretations, falsify, mislead references towards LGBTQ communities. Conversion therapy and reparative therapy are also dangerous and discredited practices that falsely claim to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity or expression. Such practices have been rejected in mass of credentials, mainstream medical and mental health organization for decades. However some continue ongoing discrimination, societal bias beliefs against LGBTQ people. Conversions therapy, a “havoc in ruins” leads to depression, anxiety, drug use, homelessness, and sadly increasing risk of suicide in the LGBTQ community.

Not long ago many organizations began to acknowledge the long term damaging effect of words in power of religious abuse towards LGBTQ Communities; to treat people of LGBTQ Community in a religious movement as an “evil spirit addiction” that needed to be cleansed, repent of great sins, to rid bad spirits of great evil; to go as far to chant in what one would be called to “Chant in Religious Tongue” in a sole purpose to rid the demons . The “Strong Hold Effect” in some religions, members and affiliates use this method as a way to tear down the fabric of one’s emotional and physical wellbeing; to treat people of LGBTQ as people in need of saving of their soul.

This wouldn’t be considered a traditional prayer group because it requires members to prayer chant among other religious members as well to chant in a circle over someone who identifies themselves as LGBTQ without permission from the individual to rid something they are compelled to remove like demons in circumstances that resemble an exorcism.

Conversions/Repairitive Therapies: The Lies and Dangers of Efforts to Change Sexual Orientation or Gender Identity”

To date, Connecticut, California, Nevada, New Jersey, the District of Columbia, Oregon, Illinois, Vermont, New York, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Washington, Maryland, Hawaii, New Hampshire and Delaware all have laws or regulations protecting youth from this abusive practice. A growing number of municipalities have also enacted similar protections, including cities and counties in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Washington, Florida, New York, Arizona, Wisconsin and other States soon Followed.

In August of 2013, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld California’s law, which was signed by Democratic Governor Jerry Brown in 2012. In May of 2015 and again in February of 2016, the United States Supreme Court let stand decisions of the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upholding New Jersey’s law, which was signed by Republican Governor Chris Christie in August of 2013. In February of 2015, a NJ Superior Court judge ruled that misrepresenting homosexuality as a disorder violates the state’s consumer protection laws. Additionally, in June of 2015, the jury in that case found a conversion therapy provider liable for consumer fraud and ordered the provider to pay the plaintiffs for refunds and damages.

In February 2016, the Human Rights Campaign, National Center for Lesbian Rights, and Southern Poverty Law Center filed a consumer fraud complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) against People Can Change, a major provider of conversion therapy. The complaint alleges that People Can Change’s advertisements and business practices which claim they can change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity constitute deceptive, false, and misleading practices and can cause serious harm to consumers, all in direct violation of Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act. The complaint urges the FTC to take enforcement action to stop these deceptive practices and investigate all practitioners making similar claims.

Some right-wing religious groups promote the concept that an individual can change their sexual orientation or gender identity, either through prayer or other religious efforts, or through so-called “reparative” or “conversion” therapy. The research on such efforts has disproven their efficacy, and also has indicated that they can be affirmatively harmful. Beyond studies focused solely on reparative therapy, broader research clearly demonstrates the significant harm that societal prejudice and family rejection has on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people, particularly youth. Furthermore, there is significant anecdotal evidence of harm to LGBTQ people resulting from attempts to change their sexual orientation and gender identity. Based on this body of evidence, every major medical and mental health organization in the United States has issued a statement condemning the use of conversion therapy.
